Preliminary Content:

  • Linear stability analysis, including Turing instability and chemical systems.
  • Nonlinear States: Spatial periodicity, nonlinear oscillations, and waves.
  • Exemplary models of pattern formation.
  • Stationary patterns: Amplitude equations in 2 dimensional systems, defects and fronts, patterns far from threshold.
  • Dynamical phenomena: Oscillatory patterns and excitable media.
  • Numerical methods for the study of pattern-forming systems.
