Ana is originally from a small town in the south of Spain (Grazalema). She studied at the University of Seville (Spain), and after a short period in industry, she pursued a PhD at CICbiomaGUNE in Spain (2016-2019) under the supervision Prof. Dr. Fernando López-Gallego. During her PhD, she did three research stays at the University of Nottingham, UK (with Prof. Dr. Francesca Paradisi), University of Trento, Italy (with Prof. Sheref S. Mansy), and University of Zaragoza, Spain. She then joined the University of Nottingham (UK) as a Postdoctoral Fellow, and later the University of Bern (Switzerland), with Prof. Dr. Francesca Paradisi. In 2023, she initiated her independent career as SNSF Ambizione Group Leader at ETH Zurich, hosted in the lab of Prof. Dr. Paolo Arosio. She was appointed Tenure Track Assistant Professor at TUM in October 2025.
As co-chair and co-founder of the NextGenBiocat conference series, Ana actively promotes early-career researchers in Biocatalysis. She is also an advocate for women in science, working to increase visibility and equity for women in STEM. On her free time, Ana loves hiking in the mountains and travelling.
